Annwyl gyfaill,

Many languages of the world are ignored by prominent websites. The companies responsible often refuse to publish users' content in our languages, refuse to offer interfaces, and sometimes delete content posted in our languages.
Mae sawl iaith y byd yn cael eu heithrio o wefannau blaenllaw.

Mae hyn yn amlwg ymhlith defnyddwyr ieithoedd sydd ddim yn derbyn llawer o adnoddau a ieithoedd lleiafrifedig, ond mae'n effeithio ar ieithoedd eraill hefyd.

Mae defnyddwyr yn sôn yn aml am sut mae cwmnïau anferth yn gwrthod cyhoeddi cynnwys yn ein hieithoedd, gwrthod cynnig rhyngwynebau, ac weithiau yn dileu cynnwys a bostiwyd yn ein hieithoedd. Mae polisïau swyddogol y cwmnïau yn cyfeirio at hyn yn aml.

Ynghlwm a'r llythyr hwn mae delwedd o e-bost gwrthod iaith oddi wrth TripAdvisor i rywun sydd wedi ceisio postio adolygiad Cymraeg go iawn. Os nad yw'ch iaith ar y rhestr hon mae TripAdvisor yn gallu dileu'ch iaith oddi ar y we yn ogystal.

Yn 2017, sut oes modd ein rhwystro ni ac i rwystro'n plant rhag defnyddio ein hieithoedd ein hunain, a hynny gan gorfforaethau sy'n gallu fforddio cefnogi'r ieithoedd yn hawdd?

Yn ôl profiad nid yw polisïau gwrth-ieithoedd yn newid ar eu pennau eu hunain. Mae angen gwrthsefyll drwy ddulliau di-drais cadarn.

Dw i'n cynnig diwrnod rhyngwladol o bostio cynnwys o ansawdd i un gwefan mewn sawl iaith.

Byddai hynny yn weithred syml sy'n cymryd dau funud i'r defnyddiwr cyffredin. Ewch i'r wefan a phostiwch rywbeth yn eich iaith.

Bydden ni'n ymddwyn yn union fel defnyddwyr arferol mae'r gwefannau yn gwerthfawrogi. Iaith yw'r unig bwynt ar dermau ac amodau'r cwmni y byddem am dorri. (Nid cyfraith ydy termau ac amodau unrhyw gwmni. Mewn gwirionedd maen nhw yn gallu gwrth-ddweud cyfraith cenedlaethol, ac yn sicr yn gallu gweithio'n groes i degwch a chyfiawnder.)

Byddai hyn yn ffordd ardderchog o anfon y neges bod ieithoedd 'bychain' yn cyfrif. Fel clymblaid o ieithoedd byddem yn sefyll gyda'n gilydd ar hyn. Byddai croeso i bob iaith a phob defnyddiwr gymryd rhan. Byddem hefyd yn gallu helpu y sawl sy'n dysgu'n hieithoedd drwy gynnig cymalau allweddol maen nhw yn gallu defnyddio i gymryd rhan.

Os fydd unrhyw gynnwys yn cael ei ddileu heb reswm da bydd gennym yr hawl fel defnyddwyr i foicotio'r wefan hon a'r cwmni.

Er mwyn i'r brotest fod yn effeithiol bydd angen canolbwyntio ar un gwefan, sef TripAdvisor, a phostio mewn sawl iaith ar yr un dyddiad.

Dw i'n argymell ein bod ni'n ystyried dyddiad ym mis Mawrth neu fis Ebrill er mwyn gadael amser i ni gynllunio, paratoi a lledaenu'r neges.

Os ydych chi'n cytuno fe gewch chi'ch enw a grŵp o dan y llythyr hwn fel llofnodwr, ac hefyd helpu penderfynu ar y dyddiad.

Hello friend

Many languages of the world are blocked from prominent websites.

This is well known among users of lesser-resourced languages and minoritized languages, although it affects other languages as well.

Users often report how huge companies refuse to publish content in our languages, refuse to offer interfaces, and sometimes delete content posted in our languages. This is often cited in specific company policies.

Included with this letter is an image of TripAdvisor's rejection email to somebody posting a legitimate review in Welsh. If your language is not on this list then TripAdvisor can (and does) delete your language from the web as well.

How is it possible that in 2017 we and our children are barred from using our own languages, by corporations who can well afford to support them?

According to experience these anti-language policies do not change by themselves. They must be resisted through peaceful yet assertive means.

I propose an international day of posting quality content to one website in our many languages.

It would involve a simple action which would take ordinary users two minutes. Just go to the website and post something in your language.
We would behave exactly as normal, valued users do. The only point on the company's terms of service which we would break relates to language. (Company terms of service are not law. In fact they can often contradict national laws, and certainly contradict fairness and justice.)

This mass action would be an excellent way of letting the corporate web know that it must accept and encourage the use of 'smaller' languages. As a coalition of languages we would stand together on this. All languages and all users would be welcome to take part. We can also help learners of our languages by offering key phrases they can use to take part.

If any of our content is deleted without good reason then we have the right as users to completely boycott that website and company.

In order for the protest to be effective we should decide on one website, namely TripAdvisor, and post in multiple languages on the same date.

I suggest we consider a date in March or April 2017 to allow time to plan, prepare and spread the word.

If you agree then you can have your name and group added as a signatory of this letter, and also help decide on the date.
